English 9: Unit 1 — The Self is a self-paced digital learning experience designed to support independent learners through structured content, multimedia, interaction, and assessment. The project also explored how generative AI could be incorporated thoughtfully into the e-learning development workflow.

Deliverable
Self-Paced Interactive E-Learning
Asynchronous learning removes many of the real-time supports an instructor naturally provides—clarifying difficult concepts, redirecting attention, checking understanding, and adjusting instruction when learners struggle.
The design challenge was to create a self-paced English experience that maintained the attention and motivation of the learners while providing enough structure, multimedia support, interaction, and formative feedback for learners to progress independently.
Design question: How can a text-rich subject become an engaging, supported digital learning experience without relying on continuous instructor presence?
The goal of this unit was to hook students into the course content and introduce them to the platform. The interactivity and self-expression features of this unit is meant to keep motivation high and foster a warm relationship in a classroom environment (asynchronous/online) that could easily remain cold and stagnant.
Learner Objectives: Learn to navigate the course; Become acquainted with peers/teacher; Begin to analyze the development of the self
Design priority: Create a balance between content amount/depth and varied activity types to maximize engagement
Orient → Explore → Practice → Reflect → Assess
Rather than translating classroom materials directly into an online format, I structured the course around a progressive learning sequence. Learners are introduced to concepts, encounter them through varied media and examples, practice applying their understanding, reflect on key ideas, and demonstrate learning through assessment.
ACCESSIBLE, RESPONSIVE DESIGN
Designed with visual hierarchy, whitespace, contrast, alt text, and responsive layouts to support an intuitive experience across devices.
Generative AI was integrated into the development workflow to expand multimedia possibilities and streamline production. Rise 360's integrated AI tools supported script development, narration, and image generation, while VEED was used to create a realistic avatar-led introduction. ChatGPT also supported early-stage brainstorming and ideation.
Throughout the process, AI-generated outputs were treated as production inputs rather than finished instructional design. I remained responsible for instructional decisions, content selection, sequencing, review, refinement, and the final learner experience.
AI-ASSISTED PRODUCTION
Generative AI supported ideation and production workflows, including course development in Rise 360, AI-assisted video production in VEED, and content development with ChatGPT.
Scripts - Narration - Imagery
Rise 360's integrated AI features supported narration-script development, generated audio narration, and created custom imagery used throughout the learning experience.
AI Avatar Video
VEED was used to produce a realistic avatar-led introduction, adding a human presence to the opening of the asynchronous experience.
Ideation & Brainstorming
ChatGPT supported early exploration of content and presentation approaches, with ideas evaluated and refined through the instructional design process.
The finished experience combines structured asynchronous instruction, multimedia, interactive practice, and assessment within a cohesive Rise 360 course. The project also gave me an opportunity to explore how generative AI can expand e-learning production while keeping instructional decisions and quality control human-directed.
